Golf Digest recently published their golf course rankings with Utah missing out on the overall Top 100 and the Top 100 public courses. Utah's top 10 list was dominated by Park City and included only 2 public courses (*). The rankings were as follows:
1- Glenwild G.C., Park City
2- Promontory, The Ranch C., (Painted Valley) Park City
3- Promontory, The Ranch C., (Dye Canyon) Park City
4- Tuhaye G.C., Kamas
5- Entrada at Snow Canyon C.C., St. George
6- The Country Club, Salt Lake City
7- Willow Creek C.C., Sandy
8- Coral Canyon G.C., Washington*
9- Hidden Valley C.C. (Lakes/Valley), Sandy
10- The G.C. at Thanksgiving Point, Lehi*
I haven't played any of these courses, but I'm looking forward to checking out the two public courses sometime this summer.

+2 Terrible
+1 Poor

-2 Pristine
Are hazards clearly marked and given clearly defined boundaries?
Are there water drainage issues? Is there an excess of standing water?
Are the greens smooth?
Are the sand traps well maintained?
Is the grass neatly mowed with clear difference between rough and fairway?
Forgiveness
+2 Straitjacket - you better be straight off the tee and proficient with your approach or you will be heavily penalized as well as short a few balls.
+1 In Jail - There is ample opportunity to lose balls if you stray too far from the middle. Recovery will be difficult.
0 Fair - Recovery from wayward shots is definitely possible but not very easy and will require skill and creativity, as well as the ability to recover from bunkers.
+1 Open - Recovery from wayward shots will generally not require anything too special. You might have to hit over some bushes or small trees.
+2 Too Easy - Swing away! Hazards are few and far between and fairways are wide. The course is very open so recovery is not overly difficult.
Diversity
+2 Terrible - A little bit like the course you designed in the backyard with your little brother: it feels like you're always hitting the same club.
+1 Poor - This course is pretty bland, you'll hit a lot of shots that feel very similar.
0 Satisfactory - Pretty standard, gives opportunity to mix it up if you want to play a little risky.
-1 Good - The course requires you to hit a variety of shots.
-2 Excellent - This course has a hole for everything. No club will make it through a round unhit.
Uniqueness
+2 Terrible - Absolutely nothing sets this course apart from any other field of shortly cut grass.
+1 Poor - Nothing too special about this course.
0 Satisfactory - It's different enough.
-1 Good - Something unique that other courses in the area don't offer.
-2 Excellent - You'll see/do something here that you probably wouldn't get to see/do anywhere else in Utah.
